Mrs. Mercy Jenkins died at her home in Merrillan, July 29 after a long illness, aged 81 years and 4 months. The funeral was held from the M. E. church of which she had long been a member, Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Upson. Mercy Basset was born April 26, 1824, in England, and came to Wisconsin in 1858, where she was married to Alvin Jenkins in that year. Herr husband died in April 1893, and she had made her home with son since, residing in Merrillan for 17 years, where she was much respected by her neighbors and friends as a good christian friend, and truly it may be said to her, she hath done what she could.
