For two years he taught in the rural schools of Johnson county. In 1904 he entered Graceland college, taking his high school training there, also a stenographic course. During that summer he worked in the harvest fields of Oklahoma, and the following summers until 1911 he did office work in Kansas City, Mo., and Des Moines, Iowa, to pay his expenses while in school.
He became principal of the Lamoni high school the year of 1911-12, when he left Lamoni to go to Ouray, Colo., to serve in the same capacity.
On Aug. 26, 1913, he was married to Miss Pauline Anthony of Lamoni, then returned to Ouray to teach another year. He left Ouray to enroll at the University of Iowa, doing graduate work in the college of education, receiving his M.A. degree in June 1915.
During the years following he served as principal and superintendent of schools. In 1921 he returned to Graceland where he was director of teacher training until 1926.
After a respite from teaching, and six weeks of graduate work at the University of Chicago, he returned to the teaching profession which he followed until the fall of 1949 when he retired and moved to Illinois to live near two of his children, Vance and Myra Steinbrink.
He was a member of the High Priesthood of the Reorganized Latter Day Saint church, which he served faithfully in several different capacities.
He passed away in Memorial hospital in Elmhurst, Ill., early in the morning of Dec. 2, 1962.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Pauline; their two sons, Robert C. of Philadelphia; Vance B. of Lombard, Ill.; and daughter, Mrs. Myra Steinbrink of Niles, Ill., and seven grandchildren.
He is survived by one brother, William W. Gold of Independence, Mo.
