Daniel Morgan Brickey (son of William and Elizabeth (Cox) Brickey) and Caroline (Brickey) Brickey-Mason (daughter of Jared and Nancy Parrish Brickey) are first cousins. Her first husband (MARRIED 11 AUG 1853) was killed in the civil war, and then she married (MARRIED 30 OCT 1866 SCOTT CO, VA.) to James Mason and had more children. She is listed as CAROLINE BRICKEY and not Mason, probably due to the family argument.

BRICKEY FAMILY RECORDS give the following children of Daniel and Caroline BRICKEY as: JAMES Nelson (1854-1933)m Amanda Day and Esther Dysart;

SAMUEL Parrish (1855-1942) m a Mary Baker then Mary Hutchinson;

SENA Victoria Brickey (1858-1864);

ROBERT Emmett (1860-1931) m Mary Ellen "Polly" Sparks;

MARY Elizbeth (1856-1932) m Wiley Lyon;

DANIEL Morgan (1862-1921) never married;

MELISSA Caroline (1864-1956) m Richard Menafe Sparks.

William Franklin Mason says in his journal that his mother was an expert at spinning and weaving. Describes his mother as: Had clear blue eyes, fair complexion, very black hair to her knees, with very little grey, and was a bit plump but not fat.

In 1954 my grandfather, WILLIAM FRANKLIN MASON, wrote a Journal about his life in northeastern Kentucky from 1872 to 1914. The following is in 1901, (should be 1910) when his mother, CAROLINE BRICKEY MASON, passed away. (PNEUMONIA ON KY DEATH RECORD)

Pages 239-240:
"MELISSA and MENIFFE [SPARKS] came early and we all got together and made arrangements for her burial. Bro. BOB [BRICKEY] platted the grave and neighbors and friends went to digging it upon a high point above her little house. I believe BOB [BRICKEY] had coffin lumber and attended to having a coffin made. There were no undertakers in that country then. I went to LAFE PENNINGTON's store at the mouth of Hurricane Fork and bought lining an trimming for the coffin and a few other things needed and late that day she was dressed and placed in the coffin and lovingly carried down to Bro. BOB's [BRICKEY]and placed in the living room where most of us sat up the long night through - and talked over matters."

There is a MEMORIAL stone in Scott County (PICTURED HERE) at 149645008 for her husband's family members. She is not buried there. There is a memorial stone there also (PICTURED HERE) for Daniel Brickey, who died in the Civil War and buried in a mass grave at Camp Douglas, Chicago, Il. as a prisoner of war. CSA Co. E.
