SALTILLO - John Wesley Fowler, 64, died Thursday, January 14, 2016, at University Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson after a sudden illness.

A Union County native, he was born March 26, 1951, to James Houston and Mary Etta Verrell Fowler. A 1969 Tupelo High School graduate, he also received his associate's degree in marketing from Itawamba Community College.

Earlier in his working life, John worked a number of years in retail sales first as automotive manager with Sears and later with McDuff's appliances. He later obtained his insurance license with the Mississippi Department of Insurance and sold various life insurance products with Union National, AIG, W.E. Pegues Preneed, and Liberty National.

He was Baptist in faith. John enjoyed Ole Miss football, vegetable gardening and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. today, January 18, 2016, at the Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Mr. Sammy Lansdell officiating. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Kathy Sheffield Fowler of Saltillo; three daughters, Nicole Fowler (Chris Hinds), Jordan Hannah Fowler, and Emily Fowler Baird (John Humphrey), all of Saltillo; step-daughter, Natalie Nichols of Saltillo; eleven grandchildren, Brady Hinds, Eden Hinds, Eve Hinds, Landon Baird, Rilley Baird, Anneliese Humphrey, Gauge Humphrey, John Easton Humphrey, Austin Savage, Avery Nichols, and Addison Nichols; one brother, James H. Fowler, Jr.; father-in-law, Milton Sheffield of Tupelo; and sisters-in-law, Brenda Gammill and Sherry McCarty (Jim) of Tupelo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time today, January 18, 2016, at W.E. Pegues, Saltillo.
