He was born February 21, 1924, in Prentiss County to Finis Robert and Vera Denson Botts.
He was a member of West Booneville Church of Christ.
Gene served his country in the Navy and had worked in road construction as a heavy equipment operator.
After retiring, he worked part time for the Mississippi Soil Conservation Service and surveying for Don Eubank Construction Company. He also enjoyed farming, raising cattle and gardening.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Funeral services with military honors will be Friday, April 22, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rickey Kelly officiating and Jerry Hisaw assisting.
Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00.
He is survived by one daughter, Martha Sheffield (Mark) of Booneville; grandsons, Britt Sheffield (Celeste), Todd Sheffield all of Oxford, and Tim Barron of Booneville; and daughter in-law, Peggy Barron of Booneville; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Nash of New Albany.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Pauline Botts in 2009; his parents; stepson, Larry Barron; grandson, Matt Barron; and brother, Paul Botts.
Pallbearers will be Robert Botts, Art Jumper, Bobby Pharr, Jacky Martin, Rick Johnson and Murry Murphy.
