Deborah is the d/o Joseph & Ruth Cushing. She married John Hathaway, Esquire, on 21 Sept 1797 in Hanover, Ma.

"For more than 63 years, this stricken bride lived true to the memory of her first love, in the house he was building when his hand refused to no longer labor, caring for their only son until he reached man's estate, and, at the age of 23 years, was lost at sea, then bowed down by the burden of her double sorrow, she waited through the years, until, in the fullness of time, the summons came for her to join the loved ones long gone before, and to be laid in her lasting resting place under the shadow of Mt Battie where here youthful husband had awaited her coming for so long." History of Camden & Rockport, p 112-113.

They had one son: John Hathaway Jr, b 17 Sept 1798, Camden; d 5 Jan 1822 at sea in the schooner "William" in the Gulf Stream

Death Record: Deborah (Mrs) Hathaway died March 2, 1863 at Camden, aged 91 years 10 months 17 days. She was born 1771 in Hanover, Mass, married 1797 John Hathaway, Esq, who died 1799, aged 26 years, leaving his widow and one son who was lost at sea, aged 23 years. Leaves brother Benjamin Cushing, aged now 90 years, and nephew Edward Cushing, Esq. Published 14 March 1863.
