Earl W. Gates, 86, died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Manor Care South in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Indianapolis and a former resident of Greenwood.
He was born April 27, 1918, in Brown County. His parents were William D. and Alice A. (Robinson) Gates. He married Irene M. Gates on April 12, 1941, in Columbus. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Alice Dugger of Greenwood; a son, William D. Gates of Bargersville; a sister, Hazel Neff of Florida; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was employed by Arvin for 41 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1983.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting.
A service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, 1605 S. State Road 135. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 10:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.

Services: 11:30 a.m. on Sat., June 26, 2004 at GH Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, 1605 S. St. Rd. 135. Visitation: 5-9 p.m. on Friday and 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service. Burial: Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
