Sedan – Uel Lee Blankinship, age 84, of Sedan, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at his daughter's residence surrounded by his loving family.
Lee was born Uel Lee Blankinship June 19, 1931 to Harvey Denton Blankinship and Mary Ethel (Shultz) Blankinship. He attended school in rural Chautauqua County.
On April 28, 1959 he married Carrol Ann Hutton and they made their home in rural Sedan. They were married almost forty years before she preceded him in death on April 18, 1999.
On June 17, 2003 he married Mary (Crawford) Lumley in Sedan where they made their home for the last twelve years.
Lee worked as a farmer for many years. He worked for Beeson Farms as well as Twin Caney Farms for many years.
Lee lived in Chautauqua county all of his life. He was a previous member of the First United Methodist Church as well as the First Christian Church in Sedan; he was a member of the Chautauqua Historical Society, and was a collector of many things.
Lee is survived by his wife Mary Blankinship of Sedan, Kansas; three daughters, Carrol Sue (Susie) Bader of Sedan, Kansas, Mary Werner and husband Brian of Wichita, Kansas and Karen Hopkins and husband George of Sedan, Kansas; one son Darrel Blankinship of Sedan, Kansas; two step-daughters, Rhonda Nelson of Riverton, Utah and Ruby Sabel of Ulman, Missouri and their families; twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and many other family members.
Lee was preceded in death by five brothers, four sisters, and his parents.
Cremation has taken place and a private family inurnment will take place at Riley Cemetery at a later date.
The family has suggested a memorial to the Chautauqua County Historical Society and those remembrances can be left in care of the Dickens Family Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
