Lyle C. Blankinship 84, of Sedan, died Monday (November 4, 2013) at the Caney Nursing Center in Caney, Kansas.

He was born February 19, 1929 in Hewins, Kansas to Harvey Blankinship and Mary Ethel (Schultz) Blankinship. He lived in Hewins for a few months. He was raised and lived in Chautauqua County his whole life. He attended school until the eighth grade and then went to work. In 1951, Lyle enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country until he was honorably discharged in 1953.

He worked as a farmer for Don and Ted Beason for a few years before going to work for the City of Sedan where he worked for thirty three years until his retirement.

On December 4, 1955 he married Lois Stewart in Sedan, Kansas. They made their home in Sedan and raised their three children, Lana, Laura, and Curtis.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sedan. He was a past commander and member of the Sedan VFW, also was a volunteer weather spotter, policeman, firefighter, and ambulance driver for many years. He also enjoyed mowing his yards, working on his mowers and chain saws, and also loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Blankinship of the home in Sedan, Kansas; two daughters, Lana Hatton and husband Shawn of Sedan, Kansas, Laura Beeson and husband James L. "Chun" Beeson Sr. of Sedan, Kansas, one son, Lyle Curtis Blankinship of Seattle, Washington; two grandchildren, Jesse and James L. "Trey Beeson Jr.; one brother, Lee Blankinship and wife Mary of Sedan, Kansas; one sister, Fern Vickory of Sedan, Kansas; and many other family members.

He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters and his parents.

Church Services will be held on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Sedan with Reverend Jerry Bever officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.

Friends may call on Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. the family will be receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.

The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church and contributions may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
