Irena M. Stokes 91, of Ridge Farm, passed away at 7:20pm Monday April 11, 2016 at her son’s home in Danville, where she resided for some time.

She was born May 26, 1924, in Metcalf, Illinois to John Henry & Gertrude Elizabeth Knight Stokes. She married Harold E. Brown in 1943 and later married William Cornwell, both preceded her in death. Survivors include: 1 son, Harold W. (Candace) Brown of Danville; 2 brothers, Franklin Stokes of Danville and Joseph (Meredith) Stokes of Olivet; 8 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, and her lifetime friend, Imogene Collom of Georgetown, IL. She was preceded in death by 1 granddaughter, Tina Bott.

Irena had been a longtime nursing assistant at the Danville Veterans Affairs Medical Center for over 20 years. She enjoyed crocheting & needlework, tending to her yard, and loved her dog Sugar.

Private graveside rites will be at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Ridge Farm with Rev. Matt Filicsky officiating. The Robison Chapel in Catlin is handling service details. Memorials to the Vermilion County Humane Society.
