Michael Marotta, Sr., 83, of 42 Carroll St. died yesterday at Chelsea Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
A native of Boston, Mr. Marotta resided in Chelsea virtually his entire life. He was the husband of the late Ethel (Ernst) Marotta,
Mr. Marotta was a shoeworker for many years in this area before his retirement.
He is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Buonopane of Revere, Ethel Saladino of Saugus and Gertrude Gentile of Chelsea; three sons, Joseph Marotta of Duxbury, Michael Jr. and William Marotta, both of Chelsea; a sister Angelina Nutile of Everett, a brother Emilio Marotta of Chelsea; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. form the Frank A. Welsh & Sons Funeral home, 718 Broadway. The funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Rose Church at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
