MAROTTA - William Alexander, age 81, of South Yarmouth, MA, died on Monday, May 12, 2003, at the Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care - Pavilion. He is survived by a brother: Michael Marotta, Jr. of Chelsea, MA; two sisters: Dorothy Buono Pane of Wakefield, MA, Ethel Saladino of Topsfield, MA. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. Mr. Marotta is also survived by a long time companion: Barbara Baker of South Yarmouth, MA. He is predeceased by a brother, Joseph Marotta and a sister: Gertrude Gentile. A Funeral will form at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2003, at the Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main Street, Hyannis, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the Saint Pius the Tenth Church, Station Avenue, South Yarmouth, MA. Burial will be in Ancient Cemetery, Yarmouthport, MA. Visiting hours will be held in the Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2003. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the charity of one's choice. SOUTH YARMOUTH - William Alexander Marotta, 81, died yesterday at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community - Pavilion in Hyannis.

Mr. Marotta was born and raised in Chelsea, graduating from Chelsea High School in 1940.

After graduation, he joined the Navy and served in the North Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He participated in the final assault on Japan, Iwo Jima and Okinawa and was a member of the Treaty Force.

He worked for Forbes Lithograph in Chelsea after the war and then for Security Columbian in Boston.

He was also employed by Sea Board Folding Box Co. in Fitchburg. He then moved to Enfield, Conn., to open Enfield Packaging Co. He moved to South Yarmouth in the 1960s and was a winter resident of West Palm Beach, Fla., since 1985, the year he retired. Mr. Marotta was a member of the Graphic Communications International Union - Local 600, Vestibular Disease Association, Dennisport VFW Post 8074 and the Irish Club of Chelsea. He was also a charter life member of Merrit Social Club in Chelsea.

Survivors include a brother, Michael Marotta Jr. of Chelsea; two sisters, Dorothy Buono Pane of Wakefield and Ethel Saladino of Topsfield; several nieces and nephews; and his longtime companion, Barbara Baker of South Yarmouth.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis. A funeral will form at 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, Station Avenue, South Yarmouth.

Burial is in Ancient Cemetery, Yarmouthport.
