Jeanette (Gausman) Janecek - born August 28, 1934; died October 28, 2015.

Beloved mother, grandmother, wife and friend. Preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Lena Gausman; her husband, James; and brothers Howard, Earl and Allen (Fuzz).

Survived by children, Sarah, Karen and Jim; 4 grandchildren; brother, Bill; nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Jeanette lived a quintessential Minnesota and American life. Born on a farm of Alberta without running water or electricity, she was spoiled by four older brothers and became valedictorian of her class. (She would always add there were only 17 people in the class.) Off she went to Hamline University where she met her husband of 52 years in a Shakespeare class, and where she graduated summa cum laude. Jeanette also met the women who would become her lifelong friends for more than 60 years. Through decades of playing bridge and sharing life's ups and downs, the girls from the Hamline Class of 1956 learned that men come and go, but girlfriends are forever. In the late 1960's, Jeanette bravely faced parenting three kids on her own while her husband served in Vietnam. In the early 1970's, no longer content with being a stay-at-home mom and physician's wife, Jeanette marched off to William Mitchell Law School. Because no one would hire middle-aged female lawyers in those days, Jeanette and a classmate started their own firm, Janecek & Wright. For 20 years, they helped many people with their everyday legal issues. Jeanette also ran and served two terms on the New Brighton City Council, and volunteered in civic and charitable organizations. Jeanette was perhaps the happiest up at Moon Lake, outside Brandon, where she and her husband established a lake home and created lifetime memories for family and friends in gardening, cooking (jamming and pickling!), playing cards, talking family and current events on the deck, fishing, observing nature in the changing seasons, and just being together. Her finely tuned "Lake Recipes" are a family treasure. She loved listening to the loons, and watching the Purple Martins perform their acrobatics and thunderstorms roll across the lake. She adored the prairie plantings on family farmland which she placed in the Conservation Reserve Program. Jeanette was a kind, smart, hardworking woman who loved her family, friends, neighbors, state and country. She will be deeply missed.

Memorial service November 5, at the church Jeanette was a member of since the 1970's: Salem Covenant Church, New Brighton.
