SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. - Arthur Archie "Art" Bean, 93, of Shinglehouse, formerly of Bolivar, N.Y., passed away unexpectedly in his home Wednesday (March 23, 2016.)
Born March 7, 1923, in Ceres, he was a son of Arthur A. and Millie Tanner Bean. On Jan. 23, 1944, in Bolivar, he married Harriett A. Barrett, who passed away on Nov. 27, 2010.
He attended Bolivar and Richburg schools. Mr. Bean was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was stationed in Europe and received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Bean was employed by Dresser Clark Industries in Olean, N.Y., for 34 years as a machinist, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the Shinglehouse American Legion Post 530, a member of the VFW and a member of the 76th Engineers 301 Company B. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and cutting wood.
Surviving are six children, Donna M. (James) Jordan of Friendship, N.Y., Thomas A. (Betty) Bean, Dale E. Bean and Linda L. (Phil) Skiver, all of Shinglehouse, Monica A. (Chris) O'Brien of Salamanca, N.Y., and Charles L. (Nichole) Bean of Shinglehouse; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Bean was predeceased by a grandson, Timothy Trzepkowski; four brothers, Warren, Willard, Emmett and Lloyd Bean; four sisters, Mabel Schram, Emily Bean, Mildred Kirtz and Dorothy Kirtz; and a daughter-in-law, Janet Bean.
Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Bolivar.
Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord military honors at the grave.
