Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor William Lange and Pastor Tim Bauerkemper officiating.

Joan was born on May 29, 1931 in Mondovi, Wisconsin to Obert Kenny (OK) and Merle Crocker Lee. Her husband, William B. Koch of St Joseph MI precedes her in death.

Survivors include her sons, James Koch and Robert Koch and Robert's wife, Lisa; Joan's brother, Mark Lee; sister, Audrey Zimmer and sister-in-law Alice Lee. Joan felt blessed having 9 grandchildren, Tyler, Trinity, Lukas, Jacob, Gloria, Uriah, Shiloh, Lilly, and Miriam, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joan received her undergraduate training at UW Stout, and attained her accreditation for Dietician while at Indiana University. She received a MS at Western Kentucky University, and her PhD in Human Ecology at Cornell University. Her Dietetic work included management of food service for the new Guadalupe Regional Medical Center in 1964, as well as many hospitals in Eastern Kentucky during her residence in Bowling Green. While in Ithaca New York, Joan was involved in the Broom County Cooperative Extension Service, and provided meal schedules for the VT school system before beginning her position as Instructor in Human Ecology at Cornell University which she held until her retirement. She recently celebrated her 50th anniversary as a Registered Dietician.

For the last 10 years of her life, she moved back to Seguin Texas and was surrounded by many friends through church, bridge, and various volunteer activities.

Joan will be interred next to her husband Bill at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Ithaca New York. A memorial service in Ithaca, New York will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 1326 E. Cedar, Seguin, Texas, 78155 or Guadalupe Regional Hospice, 1215 East Court Street, Seguin, Texas, 78155.

Information from Tres Hewell Mortuary, 165 Tor Dr., Seguin, Texas,

An obituary was published by the Ithaca Journal on Jul. 25, 2009.

Note: I believe the "Obert Kenny (OK)" was the submitters [probably the funeral home's] indication that the spelling of Obert was not a mistake, and the OK was not intended to be printed. A copy editor would have written "stet" to indicate the spelling was correct and should not be corrected by the typesetters or editors. The word "stet" would not have been printed.
