"I was born on March 15, 1927 in Friedenstal (Peace Valley), Odessa county to the carpenter Jakob Roll. From 1935-1938 I attended the Friedenstaler German middle school part time. From 1938-1941 I attended the school in the Russian language. After the occupation of our area by German troops, I still attended the 2nd class in German language. On 27 February 1943 I was confirmed (graduated) and since then have worked in agriculture. My father was taken away on February 4, 1938 by the Russians".

Martha was sent to Peleduy, Siberia after the war and worked there as a caulker in a shipyard along with her mother Elizabeth. In 1947 she married Abram Braun. She lived there from Aug. 1, 1945 to June 1, 1959. She died at Krasnaya Polyana near Donetsk, Ukraine. She had lived there with her husband and mother after 1959 when her work contract expired at the shipyards in Peleduy, Siberia (Republic of Sakha, or Yakutia) N112.7406, E59.6288, on the Lena River.
Krasnaya Polyana is located at 47.556N, 37.08E, and means "Red Meadow." The soils of that area are reddish brown.
