Charles "Chuck" E. Irons passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016, from a sudden illness at age 78. He lived in Missouri with his daughter and son-in-law.
He was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on March 5, 1938.
He graduated from high school in Manchester and from Mount Mercy College as a member of one of its first classes of male students accepted there.
In 1957, Charles married Janice Marie Moorman of Manchester and they had three children: Debbie (Keith) Goodsman, Kimberly (Michael) Novak and Rodney (Amy) Irons.
Charles was a Cedar Rapids police officer for 33 years, retiring in 1995 as lieutenant.
He owned two businesses, COPS (Computerized Online Police Systems) and Pesky Salesman Pet Supply.
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife in 2006; his parents, Harold and Viola Irons; and his in-laws, Harold and Velva Moorman.
Charles and Janice had five grandchildren, Chelsea and Austin (Elizabeth) Goodsman, Tiffany and Brandon Novak and Caitlyn (Drake) Allen; and he had three great-granddaughters, Alexys Goodsman ( 5 1/2), Tenley Goodsman (2 1/2) and Madison Bates (4). He cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-granddaughters.
He was a Hawkeye fan, an avid reader, history buff and loved to travel.
He will be greatly missed by his family.
A Celebration of Life for Charles will be Sunday, April 3, at Palo Community Center, 2800
Hollenbeck Rd., Palo, where the family will greet people from 2 to 6 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established.
