Duane Eugene Garoutte, age 68, of Mt. Vernon, MO, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2016 in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, MO. He was born August 29, 1947 in Monett, MO to John Hubert and Alma Ruth (Wilson) Garoutte.
Duane attended grade school in Stotts City and was a 1965 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. He served in the US Army for two years, serving one year in Vietnam. He was a respiratory therapist technician for the Mo Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Vernon. He was saved at a young age at Baptist Hill Church Camp and was a member of Round Grove Baptist Church in Miller.
On Oct. 12, 1968, he married Rita West in Phelps, MO.
Duane loved the outdoors and his favorite hobbies included quail hunting and crappie fishing. No one was a stranger to Duane, as he loved to talk about anything to anyone. He always had a joke or humorous story to share, and an infectious smile and laugh that was always present.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 47 years, Rita, of the home; two sons, Darin Garoutte of Las Vegas, NV and Chad Garoutte and his wife, Angela, of Walnut Grove, MO; one daughter, Tammy Wright and her husband, Brent, of Fair Play, MO; five grandchildren, Katelynn, Lonas and Kolton Garoutte, Kendal and Landon Wright; two brothers, Don Garoutte and his wife, Sandy, of Mt. Vernon and Dennis Garoutte of Cabot, AR; two sisters, Carol Hartley of Aurora and Cathy Sheldon of Bonne Terre, MO; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
His parents and sister-in-law, Susan Garoutte preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be held Friday, March 26, 2016 in Round Grove Baptist Church with burial following at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, MO.
