Ronald Eugene Bridgewater, age 87, went to be with the Lord on Monday March 14. 2016 at IU Health in Tipton with his family around him. He was born in Scott County in Indiana on January 15, 1929 to Ira Christian and Nellie Marie (Seivings) Bridgewater. He married Sandra (Biggs-Martz) on March 27, 1971 and they shared 44 years of marriage together.

Ron was a 1947 graduate of Scottsburg High School in Scottsburg. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1950 to 1954. After returning from duty with the Navy Ron relocated to Tipton where he had relatives. He farmed most of his life and retired from Chrysler in 1997 after 20 plus years with the car company. In his spare time Ron enjoyed square dancing and calling square dances, IU Basketball, playing euchre, gardening and anything related to the outdoors. He was a member and an officer in the Rural Youth. Ron loved spending time with his family and friends but especially cherished his time spent with his grandchildren.

Ron loved the Lord and served him well all of his life. He attended Heartland Church since it’s very beginning and really missed being able to regularly attend services since becoming ill.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy Bridgewater, his children; Sheree (Martz) Vogt and her husband Jim, Kristiva (Bridgewater) Smith, Rhonda Bridgewater and three grandchildren; Philip Mackenzie Vogt and his wife Jennifer, Matthew Vogt, and Talya Smith. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Lawrence and Albert Lee, two half sisters; Alma McClellan and Isalene Wilson.

Funeral services are planned for 1 PM on Friday March 18, 2016 at the Heartland Church located at 350 North State Road 19 with Pastor Bill Salsberry officiating. Visitation will be from 12 to 1 PM at Heartland on the same date as services. Graveside committal services will take place at 3 PM on Friday at the Bethel United Methodist Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN.
