Arthur "Hank" Akins, 76, of the Gosser Hill section of Allegheny Township, died Sunday, May 7, 2006, in his residence.

Born March 17, 1930, in Vandergrift, the son of the late George and Elinor Hazlett Akins, he lived in the Kiski Valley all his life.

Mr. Akins as a roller's helper in the cold mill of the West Leechburg works of Allegheny Ludlum, for 33 years before in 1980.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Vandergrift, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Martha Horner Akins; two sons, Barry (Cynthia) Akins of West Vandergrift, and Daniel (Denise) Akins of Leechburg; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Retha Colhlepp of Port Vue, Dorothy Shope of Washington Township, and Jean Domiano of Vandergrift; and a daughter-in-law, Chrystal Akins of Vandergrift.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Akins; three brothers, Mervin, Viril and Harry; and two sisters, Lydia George and Florence Long.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the DUNMIRE-KERR FUNERAL HOME INC., 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift, where a service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Chuck Hildbold. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo.
