BERNARD, Iowa - Arnold J. Donovan, 73, of 180 Bernard Road, Bernard, died at 5:22 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 528 of Cascade. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a parish wake service at 2 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m.
Mr. Donovan worked at the former Dubuque Packing Co., retiring in 1982. He also was a rural letter carrier in the Bernard area for 25 years, retiring in 1990.
He was born on March 31, 1926, in Bernard, son of Chris and Liz (Meehan) Donovan. He married Lucille Gregorich on Nov. 28, 1946, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen.
He was a lifelong member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen, and served on the liturgy committee. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post 528, both of Cascade. He also was a Bernard City Council member.
Surviving are his wife, Lucille, of Bernard; three daughters, Mary Lou (Norman) Ottman, of Orlando, Fla., Paula Strang, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and Janet (Jerry) Feeney, of Dubuque; three sons, Fred (Elvira) Donovan, of DeWitt, Tom Donovan, of Milan, Ill., and Steve (Heather) Donovan, of Tipton; 16 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Doris Manders, of Seneca, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, J.C. Donovan.
An Arnold J. Donovan Memorial Fund has been established.
