Richard L. “Dick” Kaderly passed away at his home in North Highlands, CA on March 4, 2016 at the age of 91. He was born in Jasper, Missouri on March 21, 1924 to Jacob and Cecil Kaderly. He received his early education in Missouri and moved with his family to Southern California in 1942. One of his early jobs was delivering milk to the “Stars” in Hollywood. He enlisted in the Army during WWII and served from August 1944 to October 1946 taking part in the invasion of Okinawa. He met the lovely Darlene Caviness and they were married on March 15, 1948. Richard attended Walla Walla College in Washington then graduated from the Los Angeles College of Optometry in 1954. He moved his family to San Bernardino, California where he practiced Optometry for seven years. He then moved to Chico, California in 1962 and practiced until retiring in 1993. He was very active in the Optometric Associations, serving as President in Southern and Northern California. He traveled across the country lecturing on contact lenses. Richard was very active in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church serving as Head Elder in Southern and Northern California churches where he was a member. He served on many church and education affiliated committees. He served on various committees for the City of Chico; Chico Area Recreation District and President of the Men’s Softball Association. He was an avid baseball player taking up golf in later life. He and his wife Darlene served in the Cambodian refugee camps in Cambodia and Thailand in 1983 taking care of visual and spiritual needs. They also served in Malawi, Africa in the same capacity. Richard was preceded in death by his wife Darlene, one sister and four brothers. He is survived by two daughters; Patricia and Leonard (son-in-law) Jones of North Highlands, CA, and Lois Kaderly of Oroville, CA and many nieces and nephews. There will be a viewing at Newton-Bracewell Funeral Home on Friday, March 11, from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon with a family graveside service to follow at 2:00 pm at Glen Oaks Memorial Park. A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday March 26, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chico Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Hooker Oak Avenue
