Emma was born youngest of six children. Her Norwegian roots of her mother Anne and Amund Orpen continued as she married Charles W. Scranton in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota. They married on September 16, 1906.
They lived in Sibley, Minnesota until when they moved to Modesto, California in 1920. She was employed as a fruit specialist in the produce business.
The couple never had children. They lived on Las Fortes avenue in Modesto, Stanislaus County, California. They lived near family -( near her brother Clarence and family-her sister Lil (Lil's family &( Lillian Orpen Bolkan) Mariner/Lil's son Richard Mariner.
A son of Clarence's Alvin and Clarence's daughter, Ruth moved with the father and mother to California. With family unity their roots continued to grow with nieces and nephews for the next generation.
Emma and husband Charles were reunited in eternity with her joining him upon her death in Modesto, Stanislaus County.
