you may ask why represent your mother by a us quarter. there is an interesting story behind this choice. we call them the Roosevelt quarters Around the years 1942-1943., Mrs ElanorRoosevelt, First Lady of the Country, was making trips across the US visiting the military troops during WW II. Amist great fan fare it was announced she would visit Camp Barkley, which is close to Abilene, TX. in order to visit and talk with the troops. while in Abilene one of her staff called Blondies Beauty Shop, where mom was an operator asking for an appointment to have her hair done. Mother had an opening and said she would be happy to accomodate Mrs. Roosevelt, which she did. When Mrs.Roosevelt checked out she returned back to my mother and tipped her 2 quarters. Now admittidly this may seem an insignificant thing to most all people, but to mother it had emence significance, Mother brought the quarters home, and placed them in a small plastic bag. mother said Mrs. Roosevelt was such a plesant and gracious lady. needless to say she was a great hit among the troops because she represented the commander-in-chief of our nation. Over the years we would ask mother about the time she met Mrs Roosevelt. She would bring out the quarters and show them to us and talk about the war times and Mrs Roosevelt's visit. When mother passed away and we had to dismantle her apartment, clean out her furniture, etc., sure enough in a drawer, in the little bag, we found neatly tucked away those 2 quarters.
