CAMP POINT, Ill.—Roy J. "Pug" Vollbracht, 85, of Camp Point died at 9 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 4, 2005) in the Timber Point Healthcare Center in Camp Point.

Born Feb. 10, 1920, in Camp Point, Mr. Vollbracht was a son of Roy and Emma Hunter Vollbracht. He married Bette Ortmeyer on April 16, 1944, in Camp Carson, Colo. She died Sept. 19, 1972. He married Alice Jean Lummis Hamilton on Oct. 27, 1982, in Camp Point. She survives.

Mr. Vollbracht owned and operated Camp Point Seed from 1954–1961 and worked for Rudy Patrick Seed in Kansas City, Mo., from 1962 until his retirement. Mr. Vollbracht was past commander of VFW Post 5410, and belonged to Camp Point American Legion Post 238, Camp Point Lions and Indian Trails Golf Course. He was a 1938 graduate of Maplewood High School and a member of Camp Point United Methodist Church.

He was a World War II Army paratrooper with the 13th Airborne Division for 3 ½ years. He received three Purple Hearts during his military service from November 1945 to August 1953.

As commander of the VFW post, he was instrumental in securing the cross in Bailey Park. Another project of the VFW he enjoyed promoting was the Big Uncle Golf Day for Camp Callahan. History was very important to Pug; he helped raise funds and establish the Heritage Room in the Camp Point Library.

Survivors in addition to his wife are a son, Michael Vollbracht of New York, N.Y.; two daughters, Carol Lynne Boeger of Carrollton, Mo., and Michele Polivka and her husband, David, of Kansas City, Mo.; a granddaugter, Tracy Stanley of Lenexa, Kan.; three great-grandchildren, Jessica, Kyle and Nick Stanley of Lenexa; a brother, Richard Vollbracht and his wife, Helen, of Quincy; a sister, Cheryl Burks and her husband, Melvin, of Benton, Ark.; three stepsons, Gary Hamilton and his wife, Cheryl, of Clayton, Tom Hamilton and his wife, Pam, of Quincy, and Jack Hamilton and his wife, Christine, of Augusta; a stepdaughter, Nancy Kelly and her husband, Don, of Quincy; 11 stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

Mr. Vollbracht was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Bockenfeld, and a brother, Joseph Vollbracht in infancy.
