I never knew Leonida Lamy as my aunt, even though she was my next-door neighbor on Pythian Avenue. My Dad always called her Ma Tante, but that name did not generalize to me; I think I thought it was her name. My generation was not taught to speak French. I did know her as Mrs. Lamy; she was the lady to whom my Mom always sent her sewing alterations. Mrs. Lamy was always kind to us. I wish I knew her better.
