Gertrude Roering Stroeing
1860 - 1937

Gertrude Roering was born December 16, 1860 on the Roering family farm 1 1/2 miles north of the village of New Munich, Stearns County, Minnesota. Her parents are John H. & Mary Flure Roering.

Gertrude is the 3rd of the 11 children of John & Mary Roering: Gertrudes siblings include four brothers Henry Roering, Herman Roering, Joseph Roering and John Roering. There are six sisters Mary Elhert, Anna Waldorf, Elizabeth Bodson, Bernadine Helsper, Christina Koenig and Katherine Morehouse.

Marriage
On June 6, 1882 when Gertrude Roering was 22, she married Herman Stroeing, age 29, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich, Minn. The marriage was performed by Rev Father Augustine and witnessed by Anton Nathe & Anna Roering.

August 1873, Herman Stroeing came to America from Epe, Germany - which is near the Netherlands - Germany border and just 7 miles from the village of Wessum where the Roering family origined. Herman spent part of that year in Cincinnati, Ohio before coming to Minnesota. It was 9 years after arriving in America that Herman Stroeing married Gertrude Roering.

Herman & Gertrude Stroeing homesteaded a 160 acre farm five miles southeast of New Munich - near the Oak Township & St. Martin Township line. The Stroeing homestead is located in Section 4 of St. Martin Township, Stearns Country, Minnesota.

Children
There were 13 children born to Herman and Gertrude (Roering) Stroeing. Nine of the 13 children lived to adulthood and the other 4 died at birth or before their 16th birthday. The couple had 1 set of twins and 1 set of triplets.

In 1914, Herman & Gertrude Stroeing moved into New Munich and sold the family farm to their son Frank Stroeing. In the late 1950s, the family farm was sold to Frank's son - Vernon Stroeing and his wife Marge (Wensman) Stroeing.

Death & Funeral
Gertrude Stroeing died on October 4, 1937 in New Munich, Minn when she was 76 years old. She was preceeded in death by 7 of her 13 children: John, Anton, Mary Ann Cremers, Elizabeth, Teresa, William "Bill" and Olivia.

She was also preceeded by her parents, John H. (1893) & Mary Roering (1904), siblings Christina (Roering) Koenig (1906), Anna (Roering) Waldorf (1925), John B. Roering (1929), Mary (Roering) Ehlert (1929), Herman B Roering( 1933) and Katherine (Roering) Morehouse died 4 months prior to Gertrude Stroeing's death.

Gertrude was survived by her husband, Herman Stroeing, children Henry Stroeing, Anna Doll, Frank Stroeing, Dina Benolken, Laura Pflipsen and Leona Lembeck; siblings Henry Roering, Elizabeth (Roering) Bodson and Bernadine (Roering) Helsper.

Gertrude Stroeing is buried in Row F, Plot 8 in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in New Munich, MN. Five years later, on March 13, 1942, Herman Stroeing died and was laid to rest next to Gertude in Row F, Plot 9.
