Mrs. B. Johlfs Dies Following Six Months Illness

Mrs. Barney Johfs, 42, former Plymouth county resident, died at her farm home near Iona, Minn., Saturday, May 30, following an illness of six months cased by cancer.

Mrs. Johlfs was a daughter of Ihnke Harms of Brunsville. Her maiden name was Marie Harms and she was born March 6, 1894, in Grant Township, where she received her early education, grew up and was married to Bernard Johlfs in 1915.

She is survived by her husband and six children. Irene, Lorraine, Margaret, Marilyn, Wallace, and Carol Jean, her father, Ihnke Harms, two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Dickman, Mrs. Henry W. Harms, and four brothers, Henry, Charles, Herma, and Dick Harms, all of this vicinity.

The funeral which will be attended by the relatives here, will be held Tuesday afternoon at the Zion Lutheran church in Iona, Minn.

Mrs. B. R. Johlfs Succumbs at the age of 42, After Long Illness, Funeral Held Tuesday

Death claimed Mrs. B. R. Johlfs, young wife and mother, at her home near Iona early Saturday afternoon. May 30th. after an illness covering a period of about a year.

A victim of the dread disease, cancer. Mrs. Johlfs' health began to fail a year ago. She made several trips to Rochester to consult with specialists, but their treatment was of no avail, and she continued to fail until the end as stated above.

Funeral services were held in the Evangelical Lutheran church at Iona on Tuesday afternoon, and internment was made in the Iona Cemetery. Rev. K. S. Ansorge conducted the services.

Marie Catherine Harms was born at Brunsville,, Iowa March 6, 1894, to Mr. and Mrs. Ihnke Harms. At an early age, she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She received her early education in the rural schools of Iowa and later attended Western Union college at Le Mars, Iowa.

On February 27, 1916, she was united in marriage to B. R. Johlfs and immediately after marriage they came to Murray County and established their home on a farm four miles west of Iona where Mrs. Johlfs was the mother of seven children, as follows: Irene, Lorraine, Margaret, Wallace, Mariln, Carole Jean and Henry Charles who died about six years ago. Besides the six surviving children she is mourned by her husband, her father, Ihnke Harms, two sisters and four brothers.

Mrs. Johlfs was a most devoted wife and mother and a consistent Christian woman. As long as her health permitted she took an active part in the work of her church, serving the aid society in the capacity of some officer from its organization.

She was a model of patience even in the last painful stages of her illness, struggling uncomplainingly, bowing with quiet resignation to the will of the Heavenly Father.

The Herald extends deepest sympathy to the sorrowing husband and motherless children.

Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were as follows: Misses Irene Johlfs and Theresa Harms who came from Minneapolis where they are attending college; Mr. and Mrs. H.
