BIG ISLAND GOP DIES

Hilo, Hawaii - A. M. Cabrinha, Former county supervisor, Territorial legislator and newspaper publisher died at his Hilo home, 2668 Kilauea Ave., at 1 p.m. yesterday.
He was 76.
He had been ill for many years, according to his family.

MR. CABRINHA, who came to the Big Island from Sao Miguel, Azores, when he was 3, served on the board of supervisors for 8 terms beginning in 1916 and one term in the House of Representatives in 1928. He also was deputy sheriff at Honokaa for eight years during the 1940's
A staunch Republican, he was known in political circles as "Mr. Republican."
Mr. Cabrinha served as treasurer of the Republican county committee for many years. Only two weekends ago, Big Isle Republicans at their county platform convention adopted a resolution commending him for his service to the party.
He was publisher of Hawaii News, a weekly newspaper from 1932 to 1941, when he sold the publication. The paper is no longer published. He also was engaged in the general merchandizing business before he retired in 1948.
In 1910 he founded Hilo's Young Men's Institute, a Catholic benevolent association.
He is survived by his wife Philomena. The couple had no children.
Funeral services are pending.
