EUGENE GREGG
June 5, 1928 - February 10, 2016
Kingsport – Eugene Gregg, 87, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Wednesday February 10, 2016 following a lengthy illness.
Dad was born and raised in a very loving, tight-knit family growing up and being part of the greatest generation in rural Cocke County. His parents, Thomas who farmed then retired from Eastman, and Katie Mae who was a home maker, always watched over and took care of dad and his siblings in probably the greatest challenging time of our history. Dad, who was saved in a small church in Newport and then baptized in the river as a teen-ager, always instilled in our family the need for God in our daily lives. He was often quiet and soft-spoken and loved working on cars which he did most of his adult life at Anderson/Fairway Ford retiring after 33 years of faithful service in 2010 having worked into his 80’s at what he loved to do.
Faithful being the key word, he was faithful until the end whether in worship, in life, in work, in loving his wife and children, dad was always there for us, we will miss him greatly but God’s plan called him home. This isn’t the end, I will hold you again my husband, we will meet with you later dad, I will talk to you once more my friend.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shelia Gregg in 1966; parents, Thomas and Katie Gregg; sisters, Pauline Smith, Eula Mae Hawk, Pearl Hollands; brother, James Edward Gregg; nephew, Jimmy Gregg.
He is survived by his wife, of 56 years, Mable Crawford Gregg of the home; three sons, Phil Gregg and wife Lisa of Kingsport, Dr. Randy Gregg and wife Sarah of Inman, South Carolina, and Bryan Gregg of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Matthew Gregg, Whitney Gregg, Reagan Gregg, Karley Gregg and Makenna Gregg; two sisters, Lucille Dykes and Mary Cox; special nephews, Robert Hawk and Ralph Smith.
An entombment will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, is serving the Gregg family.
