Karen L. Schroeder, 76, of Sioux Falls passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 8, 2016.

Memorial service will be 2:00 pm Friday, February 12, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 909 W. 33rd St.

Karen Lee Anderson, daughter of Carroll and Hope (Schliemann) Anderson, was born February 1, 1940 in Sioux Falls, SD. She grew up with five siblings. She graduated Washington High School in 1957. While in high school she worked as a secretary at Zip Feeds.

Karen was united in marriage with Harlan L. Schroeder on December 20, 1958 in Sioux Falls, SD. They were blessed with three children, Kristi, Susan and Jeffrey.

She began working as a secretary for Swift Brothers Contracting. She worked there for several years and in 1992, she and two other employees purchased the company where she worked until her retirement in 1998.

Karen and Harlan enjoyed many great time together. They ran the Bingo at the Boys Club for several years. They vacationed to Las Vegas, enjoyed camping, going to the cabin at Lake Poinsett, and in 1995 her beloved Harlan passed away at their cabin.

She really enjoyed family. She liked to cross stitch, word finds, playing pinochle, and she really enjoyed being a “Storyteller”.

Karen was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, where she had taught Sunday school and volunteered in the office for a short time.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Kristi Schroeder, Sioux Falls, SD, Susan (Teddy) Thurman, Sioux Falls, SD, and Jeffrey (Shelly) Schroeder, Alexandria, MN; seven grandchildren, Joshua Lee (Mara) Supik, Amber (Andy) Martell, Bryan (Courtney) Supik, Brayden Harlan Thurman, Isaac Thurman, Alyssa Argetsinger, and Daphne Nelson; four great grandchildren, Riley and Reagan Martell, Eliana and Emelia Argetsinger; three brothers, Wayne (Sandy) Anderson, Rapid City, SD, Jim (Barb) Anderson, Robbinsdale, MN, Mark Anderson, Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters, Virginia Seaman, Burnsville, MN, Penny (Tim) Foster, Sioux Falls, SD; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan; her parents, Carroll Anderson and Hope Anderson-Limmer; her step-father, Harold Limmer; and a niece, Angela Heinze.
