Helen R. Garretson, 101, of Harrisburg, previously of Biglerville, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2016 after a long, full life. Helen was born in Elizabeth, NJ on April 6, 1914 to the late Wesley C. & Margaret C. (MacArthur) Ridge. She worked as a secretary for Mountain Orchard Co-Op. Helen moved to Harrisburg in 2001. Helen was very talented with handwork and cross-stich. She donated her time by knitting booties and caps for premature babies at the Harrisburg Hospital. Helen enjoyed spending time with family and friends in their cabin in Lackawaxen in Pike County. Since 1934, Helen was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Helen had a beautiful smile and was good friend. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her and whose lives she touched. In addition to her parents, Helen is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Earle M. Garretson who passed away on April 4, 1996. Helen is also preceded by her brother Chester Ridge and her sister Grace Wheeler. Helen is survived by her niece Wilma R."Billie" Prendergast & husband John, her nephew David Wheeler, her two great nieces, her two great great nieces and her great great nephew. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hetrick-Bitner Funeral Home. Services will take place at the convenience of the family.
