Opal L. Darabant, 78, of Canonsburg passed away on Friday, January 22, 2016 in ManorCare, McMurray.

She was born on September 10, 1937 in Imperial, a daughter of the late Charles W. and Esther L. Warman Hootman.

In October of 1961 she married Robert J. Darabant, to whom she was a loving devoted wife.

Opal was a terrific mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who loved her family deeply. And they in turn loved her. She was referred to as "Pope" by her grandchildren. Although she was an extremely hard worker, she had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. She always appreciated a good joke. She was a fabulous cook and a talented seamstress. One of her favorite activities was a fun trip to the casinos. She liked to dine out, especially at Red Lobster. She adored anything to do with angels. She loved to listen to the sounds of her wind chimes. She also enjoyed reading and working puzzles and crosswords. In her day, she knitted many afghans for many people. She was a very artistic and creative person and had beautiful penmanship. Also, she missed her beloved dogs very much.

In addition to her husband, also surviving are four beloved children, Diana R. Hughes (Chuck) of Burgettstown, Robert J. Darabant, Jr. (Beth) of Lexington, MA, Kevin G. Darabant (Christine) of Bensalem, PA, Suzanne Chichester (Charles) of McDonald; six beautiful grandchildren; four beautiful great-grandchildren (and one on the way); and many nieces and nephews. Opal was also blessed to be surrounded by lots of cherished caring friends. Also surviving are two sisters, Ida Jean Barr (Murl) of New Cumberland, WV and Betty Ruth McCarthy of Southview, PA and brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Al Marzzarella of Imperial, Helen Hootman of Ashville, OH, and Janice and Paul Kowal of Oakdale.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters: Ralph Oliver Hootman, Charles Willard Hootman Jr., Hugh Perry Hootman, Lena Marie Robson and Barbara Ann Hootman Marzzarella.

“If love could have saved you, you would never have died.”

Funeral arrangements are private and have been entrusted to Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, Lin Webb funeral director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120.
