Allison Groves was born about 1810 in Maryland. He married Chloe A. E. Dean, apparently in the early 1830s in Maryland. Their oldest known child, Noble Groves, was born about there about 1836. They moved to Shelby County Alabama about 1837, and then on to Jackson Township, Union County Arkansas about 1847, settling near Caledonia. Allison Groves built up a large planting operation near Caledonia and managed to successfully survive the economic turmoil of the War. He died in October 1879 on his father from "pulmonary consumption," or tuberculosis.
