Jerome T. Stocker.

Jerome T. Stocker, one of the most highly respected and honored citizens of Salem township, Wayne county, died at his home, Hamlin, Friday, June 23.
He was born there February 8, 1844, a son of Albert and Lydia R. (Peet) Stocker. He comes of New England Puritan stock and the characteristic attributes of that faith followed the sons throughout their lives. He taught school in youth and was of mentality far above the average, and considering his limited advantages of schooling was a well read and liberally educated man. He was a consistent member of the Presbyterian church and an elder in its organization.
On May 14, 1868, he was married to Miss Emmer F. Walker and the happy couple resided on a farm near Hawley which he had cleared by his own labor. In 1888 he built, stocked and conducted a store and Mr. Stocker became postmaster of the office called Peetona, established in 1886. The office was afterwards discontinued. His wife died in 1893. In 1897 he was married to Mrs. Lucy Abbey Walker by whom he is survived; also by two step daughters.
The funeral was held on Tuesday June 27, from his late home, burial in Salem cemetery. He was the last of three prominent sons-James D. of Jermyn and Attorney Rhamanthus M. both of whom preceded him in death.
