Maydell was born on September 7, 1923 to Frank and Rachel(Stamp) Smith in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. When she was a child, her family moved to California where Maydell graduated from East Nicolaus High School. Maydell married her high school sweetheart, Clyde R. McLain on October 3, 1942. They moved to Oregon in 1945 and settled in Brownsville in 1946 where they raised their six children.
Maydell was known for her faith in God and her love for her family. She was an exceptional mother providing unwavering support and encouragement to all of her children and her extended family. She was also generous, kind, and caring to both family and friends. Although she struggled with cancer, she maintained her sense of humor and courageously persevered with her treatment. She was a member of the Brownsville Christian Church and appreciated their prayers, cards, and meals. As an active member of the American War Mothers, she held many positions in that organization including National President from 1997-1999. She also provided countless volunteer hours to veterans and their families. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Maydell is survived by her husband of 63 years, Clyde McLain and her children, Clyde Jr. (Jessica), Lynetta (Jim), Susan, Phil, Tim (Jewel), and Paula (Mike). She is also survived by her ten grandchildren, Lance (Jean), Lagea (Tommy), Susan (Matt), Jason (Sheila), Nicole (Shawn), Tara (Ken), Heather, Jered, Pam, and Melissa and her 16 great grandchildren, Joy, Jesse, Lisa, Lianna, Tyler, Tanner, Emily, Anna, Nathaniel, Aliya, Dylan, Daymon, Emily, Aubrey, Isabelle,and Ellisha. She is also survived by her sister, Darlene Martin (Bill) and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Robert and Jack and her sister, Norma.
A private family graveside service was held at the Brownsville Pioneer Cemetery.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 30th at the Brownsville Recreation Center.
