WHITE

Merlin White, 66, of Chariton, was born at Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Robert and Elotia Gibbons White, on July 31, 1928.

Merlin was married to Josephine (Jo) Spencer, June 1, 1948, at Knoxville, Iowa. To this union three daughters and one son were born: Merla, Mrs. Harmon Lingle, of Stella, Mo.; Peggy, Mrs. Joel Randall, of Chariton; Veronica, Mrs. John Rosenbalm, of Monett, Mo., and Allen White and wife, Mary, of Kellogg.

Merlin is survived by his wife, 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, three sisters, Lorraine Olson, of Knoxville, Margaret Skarsten, of Minnetonka, Minn., and Alice Sexton, of Topeka, Kansas.

As a youngster, Merlin lived and grew up at Knoxville. After his marriage, they moved to Newton, where Merlin was employed at the Maytag Company. Merlin retired from the Maytag Company in 1977, after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Maytag Twenty-five Year Club, the U.A.W. Retirement Club, and Local U.A.W. 997.

After retirement Merlin and his wife lived for 12 years in the Ozarks, at Monett and Purdy, Mo., where Merlin dedicated his life to God, and became a member of the First Baptist Church. Returning to Iowa in 1989, Merlin had suffered failing health since.

Merlin enjoyed many hobbies, among them were building wind-chimes, woodworking, candy making and cooking. Merlin loved his family and friends. His greatest joy was knowing he had made them happy.

Mr. White passed away Jan. 11, 1995, at his home in Chariton. Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 13, at 1:30 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Chariton. The service was conducted by Pastor Paul Olson, with music by Mrs. Lucille Funk and Mrs. Colene Greubel.

Bearers were grandsons Michael Spegal, Tod Michael, Matthew Hill, Jay Harmon, Tim White and Joseph Rosenbalm. Burial was in the Chariton Cemetery.
