Melvin was admitted to the State Orphange In Owatonna Steele County Mn. on Jan.15,1890 his mother had passed away the year before. His father was in the old soldiers home and Melvin was living with his sister Lilly and her son Lawernce Welch in Redwood Falls.

Melvin Richard Welch,age81 of Morristown died Saturday evening at the Rice County District One hospital in Faribault. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2pm at the First Baptist church in Morristown Rev.Ernest Lindahl officiated and burial was in the Morristown Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ralph Witte, Roy Timm, Chester Meschke, Merel Reineke, Melvin Reineke and Howard Timm. The Gill Funreal home was in charge of the arrangements.
He was born on May 30,1886 in Redwood Falls Minn. to Mr and Mrs Erastus and Catherine Welch. He was employed by Chicago and North Western Railroad for 48 years. He was a engineer for 42 of those years and work out of Waseca.
On July 10 1933,he was married to Catherine Dunn of Waseca at Brookings S.D.by Rev. Arthur Clark.
Mr Welch is survived by his wife;a son Richard of Faribault; five daughters Mrs.Margaret Voegele of Faribault Mrs Richard (Helen) Steinhaus of Markesan,Wisconsin,Mrs. Gene (Ruth Ann) Burke of Hobart, Indiana, Mrs.Stanley(Diane) Johnson and Marian Welch both of Minneapolis; and ten grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Alice
