Harry was ordained in the Baptist ministry and served in Montreal from 1931-1940 and in St Catharines from 1940-1942.

He then became a chaplain in the Royal Canadian Navy and served from from 1942-1958, working on the HMCS Warrior and the HMCS Magnificent. He later served, for many years, as minister of The Church by the Lake, also known as Elk Lake Community Baptist Church.

As a former navy chaplain, he was cremated and his ashes were scattered at sea.
