Son of John Slay and Elizabeth Whitehead. Sibling to known children; Mary, and Edward Slay. He married Frances Ricketts 26 August 1759 in Saint Lukes Prostestant Church, Church Hill, Queen Ann's County, Maryland. Known children include; Julius, Thomas Jr., Daniel Ricketts, Nathan, William, Pleasant and Noah Slay. (Nathan and Noah were seperate sons).
Thomas Slay served in the American Revolution as;
Sgt. Thomas Slay (Sr.)Anson County, North Carolina-Revolutionary War Militia
Light Horse and Independent Company of Foot of Capt. Thomas Wade of Anson County, North Carolina.
Enlisted under Capt. James Farr and was in the battle at Charleston under Capt. George Lowman and Col. Malmady. Next, he was under Gen. Marion, Col. Thomas Wade and Capt. Bogan. Served in several skirmishes against the Torries. He also enlisted under Capt. Farr and was taken prisoner at the fall of Charleston, but was paroled. Thomas Slay was also in the battle of Eutaw Springs. Part of the times, he was in North Carolina militia. He also served under Capt. Brackins and Gen Marion (moved to Georgia for a time after the war)
