Mary Elizabeth Creer Buehner passed away peacefully on January 5th 2016. Elizabeth had a quick wit, a big personality and an even bigger laugh. Whether you knew her as Elizabeth, Liz, Fuzzy, Nana, or mom, you knew you were loved.
Elizabeth was born April 20, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Frank Brockbank Creer and Sara Moyle Creer. She attended East High School and spent her junior year studying abroad in Switzerland where she dared to travel around Europe on her own. She attended the University of Utah where she was a member of the Phi Beta Pi sorority. As a young girl, she was an AAU ranked swimmer and always loved being in the pool and in the sun.
Elizabeth married Paul William Buehner in 1965, they later divorced. Together they had four children; Jennifer Buehner-Varley (Sean), Paul William Buehner (Jodie), Sara Buehner Slatter (Jason), Benjamin Creer Buehner (Kristie). Fuzzy adored her 13 grandchildren; Taj VanWinkle (28), Thea Varley (19), Jack Wyatt Varley (17), Dakota Smith (19), Izabella Buehner (13), Berklee Buehner (11), Dylan Slatter (21), Zachary Slatter (18), Camilla Slatter (16), Issac Slatter (13), Clara Slatter (11), Coco Buehner (7), Bear Buehner (4). They all called her Nana and loved her dearly for sneaking them candy and taking them to get fast food.
Elizabeth spent her free time volunteering with the Junior League, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, University of Utah Hospital, and especially Primary Children's Hospital. She was an avid reader, a lifelong collector of Children's books and for years attended the Timpanogas Story Telling Festival. She was a huge sports fan, especially University of Utah Football and the Utah Jazz. Elizabeth never missed a chance to play bridge with her beloved groups.
She was a member of the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints Mount Olympus North Stake, East Millcreek 10th Ward where she serviced for many years in the Young Women's program. She raised her children with the help of the 10th ward and its great neighbors. After her children left she moved to the Yalecrest 2nd Ward where she loved serving as the librarian. She has been well taken care of by her Yalecrest friends.
Mom couldn't have asked for anything more than to be surrounded by her four children as she peacefully returned to her Father in Heaven. She is preceded in death by her Mother, Father and her older brother John Preston Creer. She is survived by her four children, 13 grandchildren and her siblings Alice Marsh, Jennie Creer, Sally Grant (Brooke), Caroline Pinney, David Creer (Joan) and her adoring nieces and nephews whom she loved as though they were her own.
Services will be held Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Yalecrest Second Ward (1035 South 1800 East, Salt Lake City). Friends may call Friday 6:30-8:30 pm at Larkin Mortuary (260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City) and before the services from 9:30-10:30 am at the Yalecrest Second Ward. Internment will follow the services at the Salt Lake City Cemetery (200 N Street, Salt Lake City). In Lieu of Flowers the family has asked that you make a donation to Primary Children Hospital.
