Katherine Cruz Cosay, 68, of Whiteriver died peacefully Dec. 12, 2015, surrounded by her loving family in Lakeside.
She was born Feb. 14, 1947, to the late Owen and Mary (Call) Cruz in Chino Springs.
Katherine began teaching in 1974 and after a break returned to teaching in 2011. She was a preschool and Head Start teacher for 37 years for the White Mountain Apache Tribe.
Her and her late husband, Ian, loved to disappear in the woods and explore the back roads. She was an avid Arizona Cardinals fan and would sit for hours watching football.
Katherine found her happiness from any and all children, especially her grandchildren. Her hobbies included reading novels, word-search puzzles and sewing.
She is survived by her daughter, Carla Quesada; sons Jimmie Scott and Shane Cosay; traditional goddaughter Melissa Riley Tortes; godson Adam Adley; goddaughter Connie Burnette; 12 grandchildren; brother Manuel Cruz; sisters Tina Cruz and Gloria Williams; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A wake was held Friday, Dec. 18, at the family residence with funeral services Saturday, Dec. 19, at the East Fork Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Morning Dove Cemetery.
