Info from "Headstones provided for deceased Union Civil War veterans". His name appears as George P. Williams, Private, Co. A. 8th Reg. Michigan Infantry. Headstone provided by Gross Bros. of Lee, MA to be sent to City Cemetery, South Bend, IN. contract date was 5 Sep 1891.
So estimated he died in 1890 to early 1891. This is also confirmed in letter written by his granddaughter ReJoice Williams telling of memories of her grandmother (wife of George) who had a hard life because the son Joyce was only 5 years old at the time of his father's death.
George appears as George in 1850 & 1860 Milton, Cass Co. Michigan, living with his parents. In 1870 he appears as George in Jefferson, Wayne Co. Indiana with wife Emeline and sons Arthur and Acy(for Asa, also known as Ace). In 1880 he appears as George P. Williams with wife Emma (same wife) and sons Arthur (Arthur was known as John Arthur Williams and later lived in Dutton, Teton Co. MT and was alive in 1925, mentioned in his aunt's obit) and Asa,(Asa Williams appears last in this census and unknown where he went or when he died.)
George P. Williams is a son of George Williams (#60397157)and Elizabeth Harding (#131270817).
George and Emmaline had two other sons, Joshua "Joyce" Manlove Williams born 22 Apr 1885 in South Bend, IN and died 5 Nov 1927 in Elko, Elko Co. Nevada and son Charles Edwin Williams born 27 Oct 1887 in South Bend, IN and died 16 Aug 1972 in West Sacramento, Yolo Co. California.
George's wife Emmaline Eveline Lane died 2 Feb 1928 in Elko, Elko Co. NV.
