He settled in Allegheny Township, Huntingdon, now Blair Co., Pennsylvania after his marriage. He was a Justice of the Peace in 1820 and served as one of the township auditors 1825-1826. Moving to Iowa and settled at Le Claire.
Mr. Bard was married in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania on June 3, 1806 to his cousin once removed - Elizabeth Bard Dunlap, daughter of James & Mary Bard Dunlap and she was born 1783 and died 01 February 1866. 10 children are known to have been born to this union. 1. James who went West as a young man. 2. David who never married and died in Baltimore, Maryland. 3. Richard who drowned at the age of 03 years. 4. William Bard - 5. Harrison Bard - 6. Richard Bard II 7. John D killed in California in the 1850's. 8. Mary who died in Le Claire, Iowa married to John McDowell. 9. Eliza Jean married Stewart M Campbell and 10. Catharine Poe Bard.
