Joyce Evelyn Ash passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 16, 2015. Joyce was born October 19, 1923 in Larson, North Dakota to John Bernard Holte and Edith Mathilda Johnson. Losing her mom at age 11, Mom grew up helping take care of the family. She attended McGregor H.S. and was captain of the Girls basketball team. Mom worked as a nanny/housekeeper in Havre, Montana before returning back to ND. Upon moving to the West Coast (from ND) Mom met Robert Ash in 1942. While in Seattle, Mom worked at the bus depot. Mom returned to ND on vacation and was asked to be the school teacher, which she did for the next two years. When she returned to Seattle she went to work at the Post Office. Dad and Mom were married on December 31, 1948 in Tacoma, Washington. Mom was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ash, 3 sisters: Lillian, Avis and Melba; an infant son; daughter-in-law, Bobette; and great-granddaughter, Naarah. Mom's life revolved around her family. She celebrated every accomplishment big and small. Her counsel was of optimism and encouragement when we faced life challenges. Mom initiated conversations with anyone who crossed her path. Her faith was central to her life. She contributed to her church by being involved in many capacities, including teaching Sunday school for over 27 years. Mom's legacy encourages us to continue to make connections with others, by showing interest in those around us, as well as carrying on the love and faith that she lived daily.
