She was a sister of Oregon Wray Elizabeth Black and Frances Dodds, who were better known in this county.
In April 1867, she was married to Wm. Allen of near Leesville, Lawrence county. To this union were born twelve children, six girls and six boys, two of whom, Willis and an infant daughter preceded her to the great beyond.
In 1881 they moved to Iowa, west of Des Moines, making the trip in a big wagon which took six long weeks. Now the same trip can be made in seventeen hours. She spent the remainder of her life in Iowa.
She was the last daughter of the large and sturdy family of twelve children. She had many friends as evidenced by the large crow of over eight hundred people at her funeral which was held at Booneville. Emory Hutchinson was the only one of her many Indiana friends who got to attend her funeral.
Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her demise ten children: Mrs. Laura Davis, of Booneville; Artie Allen, of Van Meter; Mrs. Florence Hoeye, of Booneville; Mrs. Flora Swallow, of Valley Junction, Mrs. Gertrude Ireland, of North Dakota; Albert, of Pleasantville; Thomas, of Booneville; Mrs. Rose Graham, of Des Moines; Robert, of Waukee, and Harry yet at home; 49 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Burrel Wray of Indianapolis and Wesley of Leesville, and a host of other relatives and friends.
