38th Arkansas Governor, US Senator. He served as Governor of Arkansas from 1971 to 1975; and then in the United States Senate from 1975 until his retirement in January 1999. After his retirement, Bumpers served as a defense attorney during President Bill Clinton's impeachment trial. He was a member of the Democratic Party. Senator Bumpers was counsel at the Washington, D.C. office of law firm Arent Fox LLP, where his clients included Riceland Foods and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
