Lattie was the daughter of William M. Jones and Margaret A. Gammill Jones of Mill Creek, Franklin County, Arkansas. She was born in 1889. According to census records, her parents were born in Tennessee where their marriage is also recorded.

On March 17, 1900, her father received a land grant for eighty acres. It was issued from the Dandanelle Land Office. The same year, they were enumerated at Mill Creek in Franklin County.
