Civil War Union Army Officer. He was mustered in as a Corporal in Company F, 21st New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on April 29, 1862. He served through the December 1862 Fredericksburg Campaign, and the May 1863 Chancellorsville Campaign, and was honorably mustered out on June 19, 1862.

He was then mustered in as 1st Sergeant of Company A, 33rd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on August 3, 1863. Commissioned 1st Lieutenant of Company K on June 1, 1864, he served until he was discharged on May 15, 1865.

On September 21, 1865 he filed for a US Army Invalid Veteran Pension (Application #89819, Certificate #59133).

On March 21, 1882 his wife, Maria Aspen, filed for a US Army Widow's Pension (Application #290741, no Certificate).
