Russell Lee Tate, 83, of South Bend, IN passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015 at 12:00 AM at the Center for Hospice in Elkhart County. Russell was born on November 17, 1932 in Canton, Missouri to the late Edgar and Juanita Tate. He married JoAlice (Thomas) Tate, who preceded him in death in 2011.

Russell is survived by his daughters, JoAlice (William) Nailon; Johnise Bloch and Kyna Glass, all of South Bend; his sons, Ronald Cole, from South Bend and Keith (Robin) Bloch of Havre De Grace, MD. Russell is also survived by a sister, Viola Tate of Davenport, IA and two brothers, Robert “Bobby” Tate of Quincy, IL and Jamie Lee Tate of Davenport, IA. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his sons, Quentin Cole and William Bloch, his sisters Pat DeVan and Mary Mallory; and his brother, Charles “Chuckie” Tate.

Russell worked as a farm hand; as a sawmill laborer; as an employee at the Quincy (IL) Soybean Plant, and as a cook for Logan Center.

A Memorial Service for Russell will be held at 4:00 PM Monday, January 4, 2016 at the Palmer Funeral Home – West Chapel, 2702 Lincolnway West, South Bend, IN. Chaplain Arlin Cochran will officiate. Friends may visit with the family two hours prior to the service (2:00 – 4:00 PM) at the funeral home.
